Best Practices for Excel Automation: Apps vs. Browser Recording
Excel is a powerful tool for data analysis and automation, but when it comes to choosing between using the Excel app or incorporating Excel in browser recordings, there are some important considerations to keep in mind.
The Superiority of Browser Recordings for Excel Automation
When it comes to building an Excel automation, utilizing browser recordings proves to be the superior option. By integrating Excel actions within browser recordings, you can streamline your automation process and enhance efficiency. Whether you opt for an app step of Excel or create an apps-only automation through the apps builder, the browser recording feature offers a seamless experience.
Challenges with Excel's Cell-Based System
Excel's nature presents challenges when it comes to recording browser automations within a cell-based system. Trying to interact with cells directly in Excel or Google Sheets can be complex, making it difficult to achieve the desired functionality through browser recordings alone. Instead, leveraging apps or APIs is a much more effective solution for handling tasks within Excel or Google Sheets.
Practical Applications in Excel Automation
While certain administrative tasks in Excel, such as duplicating sheets or managing data, can be accomplished within cells, interacting with the cells themselves can pose challenges. In such scenarios, relying on apps or APIs for automation is recommended for a smoother and more efficient process.

When it comes to using the Excel actions or wanting to build an Excel automation, the best option is inside of our browser recordings. We can either add an app step of Excel, or we can build an apps only automation from the apps builder. If your automation does not require any sort of browser recording.
Because of Excel's nature, it's very difficult to record a browser automation inside of a cell based system like that, like Excel or Google, and the apps should be fully supported to accomplish any of the functionality you're looking to do so that you don't need to build a browser recording around that.
This is one of the scenarios where using apps or using an API is the much, much better solution compared to browser recording, handling anything in Excel or Google sheets. When it comes to working inside of the cells, maybe you can do things like duplicating sheets or any of the other admin related stuff that are at the top section here.
But interacting with these cells themselves is going to be a much more difficult task.
